About this project

Our engineering team recently completed the development of a custom battery swap system for a major telecommunications provider's network of cellular towers. This project was designed to address the challenge of ensuring reliable backup power for critical communications infrastructure during grid outages or other disruptions.

Key aspects of this project included:

System Design

  • Designing a modular, scalable battery swap solution to accommodate a variety of tower configurations and power requirements
  • Integrating advanced battery management electronics to monitor state-of-charge, optimize charging, and extend battery lifespan
  • Implementing robust safety features and fail-safes to protect personnel and equipment during swap operations

Automation & Logistics

  • Developing a fully automated battery handling system with robotic mechanisms for rapid, hands-off swap procedures
  • Integrating real-time fleet monitoring and scheduling software to streamline logistics and ensure towers are always powered
  • Establishing a centralized battery depot and distribution network to maintain a ready supply of charged packs

Field Deployment

  • Retrofitting existing tower sites with the new battery swap system, minimizing downtime and disruption
  • Providing comprehensive training and support to the client's field technicians for safe and efficient operation
  • Monitoring system performance and making ongoing improvements to optimize reliability and efficiency

The result is a state-of-the-art battery swap solution that enables our client to maintain uninterrupted service for their cellular network, even during prolonged power outages. By reducing manual intervention and optimizing battery utilization, this system has helped our client improve operational efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and enhance the resilience of their critical communications infrastructure.
